Beckett Personal Injury Lawyers is proud to be among seven London law firms that jointly contributed a total of $130,000 to support concussion research at Robarts Research Institute.
Robarts scientist and concussion researcher Arthur Brown, PhD says, “The research that this donation makes possible will serve as a foundation for a series of questions and studies. The support will reverberate for years to come.”
Concussions are medically classified as a “mild traumatic brain injury,” however, “mild” is simply the classification — not the word that describes the effect on someone’s life. Concussions can not only cause physical and cognitive impairments, but emotional impairments as well.
Because MRI or CT scans are often “normal,” combined with the fact that symptoms aren’t always immediate, more research is needed to better understand concussions and potential therapeutic interventions. Researchers at Robarts look at inflammatory responses, neuroplasticity, and forms of dementia linked to chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).
Marlys Koschinsky, PhD, Scientific and Executive Director at Robarts, says that the donation from London law firms “helps drive a city-wide focus on interdisciplinary concussion research.”
